Cologne African Studies Centre
The Cologne African Studies Centre was founded in 2009. It is based on a long tradition of Africa-oriented research at the University of Cologne and the experience derived from several long-term publicly funded interdisciplinary research projects.

At the Cologne African Studies Centre academics from very varied disciplines are represented: Egyptologists, specialists in African studies, historians specialising in prehistory and early history, classical archaeologists,

enthnographers, and historians work together with geographers, botanists, meteorologists and economists.

The centre sees itself as an organisational umbrella for interdisciplinary Africa research at the University of Cologne and in the medium term plans to give active assistance in the initiating, concrete planning and support of research projects, to improve the national and international visibility of Africa research at the University of Cologne and, within the university itself,
design Africa-related courses.

One of the core tasks of the centre is the organisation of the interdisciplinary English-language Masters course entitled Culture and Environment in Africa, for which especially African students enrol.
